Bears take third place in Division IFeb. 26, 2012
HONOLULU - The Baldwin High School boys basketball team matched the best finish for a Maui Interscholastic League school at the state tournament in more than two decades by beating Kamehameha Hawaii 53-49 on Saturday in the Hawaiian Airlines Division I Championship third-place game at Blaisdell Arena. Seabury Hall finished fourth in D-II, losing 85-57 to Hawaii Prep. Gabe Ross and Teva Eldridge each had 11 points and four assists for the fourth-seeded Bears (16-1), who trailed 33-32 entering the fourth quarter. Pasoni Tasini had seven points and eight rebounds. Ross and Eldridge hit 3-pointers during a 7-2 run that put Baldwin in front 49-42 with 2 minutes, 55 second to play. Kaeo Alapai scored 12 points for the third-seeded Warriors (14-3). No MIL team has placed higher than third since Maui High's runner-up finish in 1990. Seabury equaled the best MIL performance in the six-year history of the D-II tournament. Molokai finished fourth in 2009. All-tournament selection Shane Jacob scored 21 points for the Spartans (9-2). Michael Clarion had 12.
